This trip takes you off the beaten track and into the unspoiled wilderness for a real safari experience in the Mahale National Park which adjoins Lake Tanganyika. Its location allows you to feel complete apart from the tourist crowds. You can visit the very special chimpanzee sanctuary here where over 1,000 of them live in groups of up to 30 per family. This trip can be arranged so that you depart from either Arusha/ Kilimanjaro or from Dar Es Salaam.
Day 1
You are collected from the Holiday Inn in Dar Es Salaam where you will have spent the night and taken to the airport to fly from Dar es Salaam to Kigoma. From there, you are collected and taken to the Kigoma Hill Top hotel for bed and breakfast.
Day 2
Transferred by boat to Mahale National Park arriving in the evening. Dinner and accommodation at the Nkungwe Luxury Tented camp.
Days 3 and 4
Two full days are spent in Mahale National Park. Meals and accommodation at the Nkungwe Luxury Tented camp.
Day 5
Return to Kigoma by boat and then transferred to the Kigoma Hill Top hotel for the night on a bed and breakfast basis.
Day 6
You will be collected and taken to catch your flight from Kigoma Airport back to Dar es Salaam airport for you to catch your flight home.

Boat departures are subject to weather conditions on Lake Tanganyika and can be subject to delays.
For Your Information
Getting there: It can be anywhere between a four and a nine hour boat trip depending on the boat and the weather conditions. Kigoma is a two hour flight from Arusha or Dar es Salaam.
Ujiji: Is a village close to Kigoma from where, in 1858, Burton and Speke commenced their exploration of Lake Tanganyika and where, in 1871, Henry Morton Stanley pronounced the famous words 'Dr Livingstone I presume'. Two engraved plaques and a small museum commemorate these events.
